Kogi State and MTN Sign Historic Truce, Network Services to Resume
In a significant development, the Kogi State government and MTN have reached a mutually beneficial agreement, paving the way for the restoration of network services in the state. The Director-General of the Kogi State Utility Infrastructure Management and Compliance Agency (KUIMCA), Dr. Taufiq Isa, announced the breakthrough in a press statement.
Dr. Isa expressed gratitude to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his leadership and nuanced approach to governance, which facilitated the resolution. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between MTN, the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), and KUIMCA, outlining a permanent solution to the longstanding dispute.
The dispute arose from allegations of under-declaration of optic fibre network and tax evasion. However, through dialogue and cooperation, both parties have agreed to put the past behind and work towards a brighter future.
Dr. Taufiq thanked all stakeholders, including Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor, Alh. Ali Bello, Mr. Adebayo Gbenga, Chairman ALTON, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), National Assembly, House of Representatives Member, Kabba Bunu/ Ijumu Federal Constituency Hon. Idris Salman, KUIMCA staff, and the opinion moulders, for their devotion and persistence to the resolution process. He also apologized to those affected by the network shutdown, reiterating that the agency’s decision was in the best interest of the masses.
With this truce, Kogi State residents can look forward to improved network services and a stronger partnership between MTN and the state government.
