Professor Ogbo Blame Parents For Not Inculcating Good Morals In The Upbringing Of Children

Rector, Kogi State Polytechnic, Prof. Salisu Usman Ogbo has blamed parents for not inculcating good morals in the upbringing of their Children.
He made this remarks while delivering a lecture at Nigerian Post Newspaper/Magrette Ekpo memorial lectures at the NUJ press centre, lokoja.
The Rector , Kogi state Polytechnic, Lokoja blamed parents for the misdemeanours of their children for not living to their billings as a role model to the children.
He said the future of the children is tied to the way their parents bring them up, lamented that the parents seemed to have relegated their responsibilities to the society which has culminated into all kinds of irresponsible behaviours by the children.
Proff. Ogbo added that children often copy what their parents do either intentionally or otherwise believing that as role models, their actions are worthy to be emulated.
The erudite scholar noted that the moral decadence pervading the society can not be blamed squarely on environmental factor, but , most importantly the failure of parents to provide needed leadership to their children.
According to him, ” We are supposed to be a role model to our children. We as Parents are supposed to be character moulders, unfortunately, most parents have failed in their responsibilities in inculcating good morals in their children and wards. I blame all of us, we have not exercise effectiveness in our role model responsibility.
” It is a wake up calls for us to do the right things we are supposed to do and we are not doing it well. For instance, a child comes home with questionable items and the parents kept quiet without asking for the source . A parent that will allow his children to watch programmes not meant for the age is an admission for failure of his role.
” Imagine, some parents will heap blames on the economic downturn and would not send their children to schools.
He therefore called on the parents to bear children they can cater for and should not be a factory for producing children who will become a problem to the society.
