Butchers Association Takes Drastic Measures to Eliminate Cattle Rustling in Kogi state

In an effort to put an end to the incessant cattle rustling in Lokoja local government area, the Executive members of the Association of Butchers has taken a drastic measures by suspending the erring members.

The Chairman of the Butchers’ Association, Kogi State Branch, Alhaji Idi DanAsabe Ibrahim, made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen at Lokoja abattoir, Felele road, Lokoja on Monday.

The chairman said that the union also resolved to trace the sources of cows brought for sale from villages.

He revealed that their erring members who are engage in cattle rustling have been suspended and a panel was set up to investigate the incident, assuring the public that anybody found guilty will be handed over to the security agencies.

‘‘In addition to that, we are doing everything possible to inculcate discipline in our members, and this has been yielding positive results,’’ he said.

He assured residents of the association’s readiness to deal decisively with any erring member stressing that on no account would the Union allow beef of cattle rustled be sold in the market.

According to him, ” immediately we got the information we setup a committee which investigated whether any of our members are involved in the alleged cattle rustling and sell of beef of rustled cows to our customers and to also ascertain whether any of our member is involved directly or otherwise in aiding the selling of such beef to innocent customers.

“ He said if the report of the committee indicts those involved, we shall hand them over to the police for further prosecution”, he stressed.

He assured customers of the association’s determination to ensure safety, especially with regard to healthy beef in the market.

In another development, Ibrahim congratulated the Kogi State Governor-elect, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo on his victory at the just concluded governorship polls.

He called on the governor-elect to help the Association to complete the long abandoned abbatoir, when he assumed office.

Ibrahim also said his members were involved in the Mobilization of voters for the victory of Gov-Elect, Ahmed Usman Ododo, assuring that the Association will continue to give him the required support at all times.
