Member representing Idah federal constituency in the House of Representatives, David Zacharias, has distanced himself from reports making rounds that he led thugs to attack members and party office of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Zacharias, who is the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 2023 general elections, said he never had thugs and will never start having them now.

A statement signed by Alhaji Danjuma Odiba, Director General, David Zacharias Campaign Council, said PDP is already scared of imminent defeat at the polls.

Odiba said the devilish and cheap allegation that David Zacharias led thugs to destroy the PDP party secretariat or had his followers to dispossess members of the drowning PDP of their personal effects is not only false, but a misleading, devilish, malicious, fake and dangerous concoction from the imagination of the writer and their sponsors.

“Most of the time, responding to faceless, jobless and hired writers is not the right thing to do for a seriously minded political party like the APC, but because most of these syndicated writers who do not have names and locations have the capacity of misleading very innocent Nigerians.

“Therefore, responding to them and putting the records straight is not only necessary, but charitable.

“The David Zacharias Campaign Council is privy to a news report trending on some social media platform that Hon. David Zacharias used thugs to destroy office and personal effects of PDP members within Idah federal constituency’.

“In the past few weeks, Hon. David Zacharias even though he has all the confidence and assurances of his supporters and good people of Idah federal constituency of being re-elected, has been touring every part of the constituency canvassing for votes. Is this the man who will send thugs to destroy an opposition that is not viable and practically absent?

“It will not be out of place to say that the opposition PDP in Idah federal constituency and its House of Representatives candidate are already shivering over the wide acceptability, massive followership, intimidating turnout at campaign rallies and heartbreaking defeat that is already imminent come February 25th, 2023.

“We consider the sponsored publication by the PDP as one coming from people acting under illusion, a party under serious election fever anticipating defeat in the February 25th election. The intention is simple! To cause disaffection and tarnish the reputation of the lawmaker who has been peaceful, faithful and hardworking.

“This fallacious and poorly written fake news will not distract the campaign council or Hon. David Zacharias from focusing on the task ahead, which is to win the coming election convincingly with shocking margins capable of causing the PDP candidate heart attack,” the statement read.

Odiba urged the teaming, loyal and die-hard supporters of Zacharias to continue to intensify their campaigns and continue canvassing across the various strata of the political hierarchy.

He urged them to “keep showing the opposition and the naysayers the various roads, water, light, school, basic infrastructural projects executed by Hon. David Zacharias, scattered all over the four local governments.”

“We are sure that our scholarship schemes, market women empowerment schemes, employment facilitation and empowerment opportunities are enough tangible evidence to show the opposition that they have no place in the coming election.

“We urge our supporters to remain calm, faithful and peaceful and we call on security agencies to watch closely the opposition as they have devised new tactics to cause disaffection within the polity ahead of the election which they are already losing.”
