KGIRS,KUIMCA Confirms non-compliance Of MTN To Kogi State Government, Says Shut Down Of Facilities is Justified

Kogi State Government internal Revenue Services and Kogi state infrastructural and Utility Management Compliance Agency, KIUMCA, have both given congent reasons why KIUMCA has to enforce the shut down of facilities of MTN telecommunications.
In a joint press conference held at KGIRS main Hall in Lokoja head office on Friday, by the Executive Chairman of KGIRS and Director General, KUIMCA who told newsmen that the state government took the decisions because MTN telecommunications did not comply meeting its tax obligation, “.
Speaking to newsmen, the Director General, KUIMCA said in October, last year, his agency sealed MTN facilities and base stations across the state following an order of the state high court which gave it the go ahead to shut the services of the telecom provider.
Dr. Taufiq Isa revealed that he led his team to seal the facilities of the telecom service provider in the state headquarters at various MTN service stations, saying they had not comply to the agreement made and did not meet up with its tax obligations.
“We therefore apologise to the public to use other means of communication or other network, pending when MTN meet up with its tax obligations”,
The chairman of KGIRS, Alhaji Sule Salihu who was represented by his Director, Hajiya Hasanna Salawu explained that MTN has long been promising to comply but deliberately refused to do so, instead they continue to decieve the state government, noting that both Glo and Network providers were sealed up last year, October 2024 but due to the intervention of Kogi state Governor and the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) order carried out against MTN was relaxed to give room for negotiation and resolution.
But said Glo and other network providers paid their tax obligations except only MTN failed to renege on its promises instead it representatives usually comes with in relevant documents contrary to previous agreement reached.
