Kogi 2023: SDP Set To Adopt Murtala Ajaka as Its Flagbearer

The Social Democratic Party, SDP has resolved to Substitute Murtala Ajaka with the present governorship candidate, Sheik Ibrahim Musa.

It was gathered that Muri Ajaka was adopted by the party today at the National secretariat of SDP.
Muri Ajaka was barred from contesting the APC primary election held in Lokoja about two weeks ago, however, his entrance into the race may change permutations ahead of the all-important election in Kogi state.
His adoption means that he will be a contesting in November’s election against Ahmed Usman Ododo of APC , Senator Dino Melaye of the PDP and Leke Abejide of APC.
Ododo is from the central senatorial district of the state while Muri hails from the eastern axis. Melaye is from the western district.
It was gathered that other candidates from the East may be willing to shift grounds and support Ajaka’s bid.
Muri Ajaka has significant supporters across Kogi East, his senatorial District, while he need to garner support from western zone.
It would be recalled that the Igalas(Kogi east), had launched a campaign for a sole candidate in the upcoming election to challenge the APC, PDP and ADC.
We wait to confirm if eight other party candidates from Kogi East would agree to step aside for Murtala Ajaka as a common Igala candidate.
The adoption of Murtala Ajaka as the SDP flag bearer means that the other major parties may not receive the votes they expected from the Kogi East.
But, one of the supporter of the NNPP candidate from Kogi East debunked the information saying his boss, Mubarak Musa Abuche is contesting the governorship election, according to him, “Mubarak did not step-down for anyone, he is contesting the next governorship election come November” he stressed.
In his own words, an ardent supporter of Murtala Ajaka in Lokoja, a former council Secretary of Lokoja local government area and ex- governorship candidate of GDM, Hon. Kabiru Yusuf said all necessary arrangements for Murtala Ajaka to clinch the SDP ticket had taken place and the Igala had agreed to produce Ajaka as their official candidate of Kogi East. ” Murtala Ajaka is the consensus candidate of Kogi East and Lokoja-Kogi federal constituency” he said.
