Kogi Guber Polls: Civil Society Groups Laud AA Candidate’s Policy on Education

A group of Civil Society Organizations in Kogi State have commended the governorship candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in the November 11 polls, Mr. Olayinka Braimoh, for his contribution to the development of education in the state.

In a statement issued in Lokoja on Wednesday, the chairman of the organization, Comrade Adamu Ibrahim Musa noted that Braimoh has been offering assistance to indigent students across the state in the last decade.

He added that the governorship candidate also gave out scholarships to over 150 students in tertiary institutions across the three Senatorial districts in the state, a gesture which qualifies the businessman turned politician to be named as  Education ambassador of the state.

Musa said with the background of Braimoh, there is no doubt that if elected as Governor, he would uplift the education sector in the state and focus more on human capacity development programmes.

Musa further promised that the Civil Society organizations in the state will support and mobilize voters to ensure the victory of AA candidates in the forthcoming elections.

It will be recalled that a Programme tagged “The Braimoh Students Support” (BSS) was recently unveiled in Lokoja and was led by its Convener, Comrade Lydia Stephen who was supported by the Chief of Staff, National Association of Kogi State Students, (NAKOSS),  Comrade Akande Ezekiel and Comrade Sally Abdulsamad.

In her address during the launch of the BSS Programme, the Coordinator, Abdulsamad said the Programme was in appreciation of the fact that it was the first time in the State where a governorship candidate will pay school fees on behalf of students of tertiary institutions.

“On behalf of the entire beneficiaries of this scholarship, I want to sincerely appreciate Mr. Olayinka Braimoh for his magnanimity. This is the first time a governorship Candidate will be showing us this kind of unflinching support and the only way to show our appreciation is to vote for his party, the Action Alliance (AA) in the coming governorship election in the state. If he can do this in his capacity. You can imagine the gravity of what he will do when he becomes the State Governor”, she said.

At the event, representatives of the students from the three Senatorial Districts also spoke differently at the programme as they promised that they will mobilize students across the respective districts to vote for Braimoh.

They said the state needs a personality like Braimoh as a governor to uplift the standard of education as was done in Kano State when Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso was governor.

In his response, the AA governorship candidate, Braimoh said that he deliberately chose to be silent about his intervention in the education sector, particularly in the area of helping students to pay their school fees.

The governorship candidate said paying indigent students’ School Fees, JAMB, and other examination fees as well as providing educational tools, are some of the philanthropic engagements he enjoys.

He promised at the event that if elected as Governor, his administration will implement the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 in his first three years in office and this includes free, qualitative education from primary to secondary school level in the state.
