Kogi SEMA Pays Familiarisation Visit To Ohimegye-Igu Of Koton-karfe, Maigari Of Lokoja

The management of Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has paid familiarization visit to the new Ohimegye Igu of Koton Karfi, HRM, DR Saidu Akawu Salihu and HRH, Maigari Of Lokoja, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir, Markafi 1V.

The Executive Secretary SEMA, Alhaji Mouktar Atimah, who led the team to the palace of Ohimegye Igu, used the opportunity to congratulate him on his successful coronation and presentation of Staff of Office.

His words: The primary aim of the visit was on familiarization, and further hinted the Royal father on 2024 flood predictions released by NIMET, stressing that his domain, Koton Karfi was among the nine LGAs proned to flood disaster in Kogi State.

He referenced to past fact-based on the cooperation of his subjects with SEMA during and post flood. He, however, seeked for committed collaboration and synergy that could compliment the proactive measures and preperadness of the Agency.

He also, informed the Royal father that in no distance time the Agency would hold a larger engagement of stakeholders and promised to send invitations to that effect.

The Director Administration SEMA, Mr Sunday Isiaka, added that Koton-Karfi has Local Committee. Members that are well organized and the Committee do assist SEMA team. He further reiterated that HRM, Dr. Akawu should use his Royal capacity to re-organize them for more performance.

In his response, HRM, DR Saidu Akawu Salihu, Ohimegye Igu of Koton Karfi, appreciated SEMA management for the visit, and shows his happiness over Alhaji Mouktar Atimah’s progress in the Agency.

According to him, ” The massive destruction caused by previous floods on Agriculture and education like classrooms was due to lack of early awareness on flood occurrence. He applauded SEMA management on proactive measures embarked upon.

He However requested for permanent camp where victims could be relocated, if such unexpected occurred. The Royal father offered prayers and affirmed his support and collaboration.

SEMA management team paid the same familiarization visit to the new Maigari of Lokoja, HRH Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi 1V.

He said the purpose of the visit was on familarization and collaboration for future management of disaster. He informed the Royal father about 2024 flood occurrence predictions released by NIMET.

He further stated that larger part of his domain usually submerged by flood during heavy downpour season, stressing the need for timely awareness and sensitization that could aid movement of people from lowland to upland as part of proactive measures ahead of impending flood.

According to him, ” The accelerating performance and political will of His Excellency, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo, charged SEMA management to reach out to traditional leaders, stakeholders and other relevant agencies that play roles in disaster management”, He asserted.

The Executive Secretary said Maigari Of Lokoja will soon receive invitation to participate in critical stakeholders meeting on which agenda would be centered on NIMET’s Seasonal Climate Prediction unveiled in February, 2024.

In his response, the Maigari of Lokoja, welcomed SEMA management and thanked them for the visit to his place.
He applauded the proactive steps that SEMA embarked on to mitigate flood disaster.

He further stated that within his capacity, his notable subjects at lowland would be relocated to highland before heavy downpour season begins.

He thanked SEMA management and pledged progressive collaboration.
