Kogi State Govt Bid To Build International Airport in Zariagi, Along Okene-Kabba-Obajana Road Approved

e Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development has granted approval for the Kogi State Government’s proposal to construct an international airport in Zariagi, Along Kabba-Obene-Obajana Road, marking a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure development.
The approval, conveyed in a letter from the Ministry dated October 9, 2024, signals federal support for the ambitious project.
Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, announced the development, noting that Governor Usman Ododo’s administration is committed to completing the airport project in a timely manner and in line with regulatory standards.
He highlighted that an international airport in Kogi would serve not only the state but also 10 neighboring states, easing traffic on both the Lokoja-Abuja road and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
“The Ododo administration has prioritized Kogi State’s entry into the aviation sector,” Fanwo stated. “With Kogi’s strategic location at the nation’s center, the state has a unique advantage to tap into the aviation market.”
Fanwo further emphasized the economic benefits, explaining that the project is expected to boost the state’s economy, create jobs, and position Kogi on the global map.
“This initiative will bring new opportunities to the people of Kogi State. The Governor is committed to hiring top industry experts to ensure the project’s success, maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality,” he said.
The airport is also planned to support cargo services, making it a critical asset for trade and commerce in the region. Fanwo extended appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Aviation for their support, noting that the airport project aligns with the state’s vision for economic growth and development.
Located in Zariagi, a community already equipped with an airstrip, the proposed site received a positive assessment from a team from the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
Fanwo assured residents that the Ododo administration would continue to implement impactful projects, building on the achievements of the past eight years in Kogi State.
