Kogi State Govt FRSC Partner To Combat Road Accidents

The Kogi State Government has restated its commitment to collaborate with the Federal Road Safety Corps in kogi to minimise road traffic crashes in the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Evangelist Kingsley Femi Fanwo said this when he visited the Sector Commander of the corps in the state, Mr. Kumar Tsukwam on Wednesday in Lokoja.

The Commissioner for Information said that the state government collaboration with FRSC would avert possible crashes and ensure the safety of lives and property in the state, he also assured the sector commander of the state Government support to enable the sector succeed.

According to him, “I want to commend the entire FRSC family for the wonderful work you are doing toward the safe of lives and property.

“I wish to inform you that the state government is ready to collaborate and partner with this command to ensure that crashes and accidents are reduced to the barest minimum level by creating a platform between the Govt and FRSC command and also assure you that we will support you to succeed in implementing your programmes and policies in the state,” he said.

“The Kogi State govt is collaborating with this command to avert the incessant accident and crashes on our highways, including traffic management and road safety initiatives, to reduce road accidents and promote road safety awareness, we will work together to implement joint road safety campaigns, including enforcement of traffic regulations and public awareness programs”, he said

Hon. Fanwo further stressed that the sector command is actively involved in managing traffic flow on major highways and roads within the state, especially during peak hours and festive periods.

“We are collaborating with you to avert road accidents, improve emergency response times during road accidents and other traffic-related incidents, ensuring timely assistance and rescue operations”,

In his own remarks, the kogi state sector commander, Mr. Kumar Tsukwam said that he appreciated the visit of the Honourable commissioner for Information to his office, saying he was so happy about the good intentions of the state government to partner and collaborate with the FRSC command toward promoting safety measures on highways in the state.

He however identified overloading, speeding, dangerous overtaking, and disregard for traffic rules and regulations, among others as major causes of road accidents in the state, saying that the command has earlier put on motion several measures to avert accidents in major highways adding that the command has organised special patrol and sensitisation programme aimed at reducing crashes on highways.

Among the officials in company of the Honourable Commissioner for Information are; the Permanent Secretary, Information, Mr. Ebenezer Adurodija, Managing Director of Graphics Newspaper, YJ Itopa, SSA, Electronics to the Governor, Yusuf Adebayo Ohiare, and Director General, Kogi state Broadcasting Corporation “Radio Kogi”, Hajiya Nana Hawwa Yusuf.
