NIWA Head of Corporate Affairs Seeks Online Media Support

“We need the media support and collaboration of online media publishers in Kogi state to avert misinformation and inaccurate incidents of boat mishaps along the rivers in the country”.
The call for media collaboration was made in Lokoja, the state headquarters on Tuesday by the Head of Corporate Affairs, National Inland waterways Authority, NIWA, Mr. Suleman Makama when the Online publishers, Federated chapel members paid him a visit in his office.
Speaking, the Head of Corporate Affairs said working with the online media cannot be overemphasized , according to him, they play a critical role in propagating information about policies and programmes.
He said NIWA was ever-ready to collaborate with the chapel, especially in those areas such as safety on the waterways, he however expressed his appreciation for the media’s consistent support over the years,
He said: “Avoidable boat mishaps incidents could be averted if partners like you had worked with us in information dissemination and even it occur, accurate figures of casualties and death tolls will be given by online publishers, he said.
He however called on the online publishers to play an active role in promoting waterway safety across Nigeria, urging them to use their platform to raise public awareness on safety issues.
Speaking, the chairman of online Media of Federated chapel, NUJ, Kogi state Council, Mr. Mike Abu pledged to leverage the power of journalism to create awareness in water issues especially transportation. He assured the authority of confirming every bit of information from the corporate affairs unit about any boat mishaps before online publications.
