Ogori Community Celebrate Ovia-Osese, Initiates 103 Virgin Girls Into Womanhood

Another round of young girls totalling 103 in Ogori community in kogi state have been initiated into womanhood during the 2025 yearly festival, Ovia Osese festival on Saturday.

The yearly festival which took at Ogori community, in Ogori-Magongo local Government Area, Kogi state on Saturday, was an annual festival celebrated by the people of Ogori indigenes from far and near to showcase there aged long Culture and traditional of preparing young girls for womanhood before marriage.

In his opening remarks, the National President of Ogori Descendent Union (ODU), Dr. Aiso Gabriel described the Ovia Osese as more than a cultural festival, saying the roots of Ogori run deep in their hearts, “our greatest strength lies in our togetherness,” he said.

Mr. Gabriel commended the sons and daughters of Ogori at home and in the diaspora, by birth or by association who have contributed to the growth and development of the community in different ways.

He appreciated the elders who have contributed immensely to the success of this year ovia osese, saying the the leaders have championed unity and progress of our community, and the youth contributed by carrying the future with passion and pride,

Dr. Gabriel also appreciated the women, “Our women strength and resilience fortify every home, and every friend and partner who has stood with the community.

Also speaking, the Chairman, ODU Education and Culture Committee, Comr. Micheal Oloruntoba said the festival is a celebration of womanhood, defined by cultural norms of the Ogori Community.

“I salute all the mothers here because it is not a mean task policing daughters, especially the new era daughters, to live a responsible morally clean life in readiness for marriage life,” Oloruntoba said.

Among the dignitaries who attended the epoch making festival, are His Excellency, the Executive Governor of kogi state, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, Deputy Speaker of kogi state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Comfort Egwaba, Hon. Member, representing Ogori -magongo state constituency, Hon. Bode Ogunmola, General Akerejola and other military officers, businessmen, Politicians, professionals and host of others.
