Rector, Federal Polythecnic Idah, Provost, COE, Technical, Mopa Bags Most Outstanding Educational Awards

Rector of the Federal Polythecnic, Idah, Alhaji Yahaya Usman and Provost Of College of Education, Technical, Mopa, Dr. Victoria Olushola Jagboro were on Friday conferred with the 2024 Most Outstanding Educationists merit Award presented by the National Education Merit Award Platform (NEMAP), in conjunction with Edu-Essence Magazine.

At the colourful event which took place at Hilltop Paradise Hotel, Lokoja, the National coordinator of the Association, Asiwaju Temidayo Ayodele said the Rector, Federal Polythecnic, Idah was selected as awardee and also as patron of the body, while the Provost, COE, Technical, Mopa being the matron of the group was equally recognised as awardee. He said their selection was painstakingly done through research and findings in Educational sector in North Central states of Nigeria.

The provost of College of Education, Dr. Victoria Olushola Jagboro was a guest lecturer at the occasion, spoke extensively on the topic ; ‘The impactful Of Digital Innovation In Nigeria Education Development”.

The Branch Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of universities, (ASUSS), Kogi state chapter, Dr. Silas Joshua, Provost of School of Nursing and midwifery, Mrs Hanna Abraham and An activist, Mrs Eunice Abimbola Abogun were also honoured with an educational awards.

The chairman of the occasion and the Royal Father Of the day, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Alhassan Muhammed Umar, the Rogan Of Eggan, while declaring the programme open, advised parents to ensure their children are properly send to school from elementary to higher institutions saying that doing that will reduce crime and poverty in the state and Nigeria.

He further said to show his love for education, he was able to facilitate more teachers to his community, Eggan, where pupils are in the school without teachers.

Conferring the award on the recipients, the coordinator , Mr. Asiwaju Temidayo noted that the decision to confer the award on Rector and Provost of COE, Mopa was taken from selected stakeholders in educational sector accross Kogi state and North Central.

According to him, “It’s a tradition for National Education Merit Award Platform, NEMAP, to choose people based on what they are doing and what they are capable of doing next, because from what one has done, we’ll be able to predict what they can do next. So many names were forwarded but this recipients were carefully choosen.

“The Association picked the awardees because of there good policies, we looked at policies of various institutions. We also considered the improvement on campus security which is to their credit,” he said.

Receiving the award, the Rector said he was short of words, noting that he did not know that people were watching and taking note of the trends in the Federal Institution under his watch.

He described the Federal Polythecnic, Idah as a student-friendly institution. Alhaji Yahaya Usman advocated for the awarding of a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree to polytechnic graduates across the country.

He disclosed that the introduction of the BTech degree would address the ongoing issues related to the dichotomy between polytechnic and university qualifications in Nigeria.

“We are advocating for Polytechnic graduates to be awarded a Bachelor of Technology (BTech). If this is achieved, we will phase out the Higher National Diploma (HND) certificate.

Rector commended the government at all levels for ensuring that Polytechnic education is delivered effectively and in line with its original objectives.

He therefore thanked the organisers for their consideration and choice, urging the group to continue to encourage good performance in the educational sector.
