Sen. Dino Melaye May pick PDP Ticket as consensus guber candidate

It would be recalled that Kogi state PDP Elders Forum raised an alarm on Monday accusing the Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar of Plotting to impose Sen. Dino Melaye as Governorship Candidate of the party in kogi state.

It became obvious today, Wednesday that some section of the party stakeholders of PDP, has given their unanimous support to Sen. Dino Melaye as been a consensus candidate.

According to a reliable source from the state party Secretariat of PDP, some party leaders went into an emergency meeting to deliberate on the request made by the presidential candidate of the party.

Coming out from the meeting, the factional leaders unanimously agreed to satisfy the request especially considering the pathetic loss of Atiku Abubakar in the last presidential election in the country.

One of the leaders said the deliberations favour the presidential candidate and Dino Melaye “ been the reason of ensuring that the next Governor of Kogi State come from the western senatorial district.

According to him, “Our Consensus candidate after all due considerations of capacity, integrity, sound health, manifesto and knowledge of good governance is Sen. Dino Melaye”,he stressed.

He disclosed “ we may consider Sen. Dino Melaye because of the zone he came from and the support given to him by Atiku Abubakar.

“It became obvious that as a people, we cannot go for the governorship election in 2023 with 10 candidates at the same time and expect to win or a miracle to happen.

“We had to apply this method of screening that will among other things consider the chances, capacity, credibility, competence and individual contact network of the different aspirants from PDP.

“The key considerations for choosen the candidate are capacity, credibility, competence, sound health and knowledge of good governance”.

The group charged others who didn’t make it, “We are aware that you all purchase nomination forms,and had consulted with your people or supporters, we however appealed to all aspirants to consider the overall interest of kogi people especially kogi west.

“All our governorship aspirants are qualified and met our selection criteria but we must present only one person. It is also important to note that other groups and establishments would narrow down and adopt our consensus governorship candidate”.

But, a notable member of the party, Abdulsalam Yunus debunked the endorsement of Sen. Dino Melaye as the consensus candidate saying the Stakeholders of PDP have told all the aspirants to prepare for the governorship primaries slated for 12th April.
