Substitution : Kogi SDP Submits Nominees for Governor, Deputy to INEC

The Kogi state Chapter of Social Democratic Party (SDP) have submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) its governorship and deputy Governorship nominees as the party withdrew the name of Hon. Sheikh Ibrahim who was the party’s placeholder.

This was done shortly after the party organised another primary held in Lokoja where Hon. Sheikh Ibrahim officially stepped aside.

The substitution Guber primary election organised by the party  according to section “31′ “A of the electoral Act, candidate may withdraw his or her candidature by notice in writing signed by him and delivered personally by the candidate to the political party that nominated him for the election, and the political party shall convey such withdrawal to the Commission not later than 90 days before the election”.

“In turn, the political party has every right to replace the initial candidate with anyone of their choice before the final publication of the candidates names”

In a letter  jointly signed by the national chairman of the party, Alhaji Shuiabu Geidam and Dr Olu Oguntoye  said, the nominees, according to SDP National Chairman, Alhaji Shuiabu Geidam, are Alhaji Yakubu Murtala Ajaka as governorship nominee and  Sam Ranti Abenerni as deputy governor nominee.

Geidam said  that the decision was made after the party in kogi state conducted substitution Primary as required by the electoral Act 2022.

The letter reads;
“SUBMISSION OF SOCIAL DEMOCRATIC  PARTY’S GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE AND  DEPUTY GOVERNOR

We write to submit to your commission, the names of our great party’s Governorship and Deputy Governorship Candidates for the Kogi State 2023 Governorship Election.

Details are provides below

1. Murtala Yakubu
Governorship Candidate

2. Abenerni Sam Ranti,  Deputy Governorship Candidate
